Punching

This article will give you 4 additional ways that you can use to increase your
punching power to a new level. With the proper training you can have the
punching power of a freight train.

Punching power is not just about strength, it is also about physics. There will
always be someone that is stronger and bigger than you, but if you use the laws
of nature to your advantage, you can punch harder than any opponent. Here
are 4 more tips to get your punching power where it needs to be:

1. You have to get angry. Psych yourself up. Pretend that you opponent, or the
dummy is someone that you can't stand. You will have to learn to rearrange
your emotions to fit the situation. If you can make yourself mad at will, and then
calm down when you need to focus, your punches will be dangerous.

2. You must get a makiwara and use it for drills. Makiwara training is critical to
moving your punches to the next level. Training with  other targets have their
advantages too, but using bare knuckles against a makiwara, as you would in a
real-life fight, is the best way to condition yourself to that kind of contact.

3. Train using suspended boards. Have a partner hold a board with just two fingers.
You will use a combination of speed and power to break it. If you go too slow, the
board will just fly out of the persons hand. If you don't punch hard enough, the
board won't break. This is an excellent drill for boosting your speed as well.

<>4. Punch the heavy bag. You can do heavy bad drills from a ready stance,
whichever you prefer. Make sure the bag is not moving. Punch it with one fist,
picturing yourself punching all the way through the bag. Try to see how much you
can make the bag move with a single punch (and without just pushing the bag). Let
the bag stop swinging and then use the other fist. Try to make it swing further each
time.
